What we collect, and what we don't.

The Nudge is published by The Bond Company. This page explains how we handle information when you read the site, subscribe to our newsletter, or pitch a POV. We keep it as plain as we can.

What we collect

Newsletter

If you sign up, we collect your email address and whatever you type into the form. We use it to send essays and publication updates. We do not sell your email to data brokers or list brokers.

POV pitches

If you submit a perspective, we collect what you send: typically your name, where you write from, and your pitch. We use that to review and respond to submissions. If we publish your work, we may also keep correspondence related to editing and payment.

Automatic data

Like most websites, our hosting and analytics tools may log technical information: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and approximate location. We use this to keep the site secure, understand what readers actually read, and fix things when they break.

How we use it

We use your information to run the publication: send the newsletter, respond to pitches, improve the site, and comply with law when required. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles about you.

Who else sees it

We use service providers to operate the site (for example: hosting, email delivery, and analytics). They process data on our behalf and only for the purposes we specify. When you follow links to Spotify, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or other sites, their privacy policies apply—not this one.

For how we use AI in the publication, see our AI policy. That page is about editorial choices; this one is about your data.

How long we keep it

We keep newsletter emails until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We keep submission materials as long as needed to evaluate, publish, or document a piece—and for a reasonable period after that for our records. Server logs are retained for a limited time according to our providers' settings.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email we send. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law (for example, in the EU, UK, or California). We will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

The Nudge is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, let us know and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy when our practices change. We will post the new version on this page and adjust the date below. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
